Introduction
An exciting research opportunity is now open for an experienced Computational Biologist or Bioinformatician to contribute to the development of next-generation RNA-based precision therapies in Germany. This role is part of a core project within curATime (Cluster for Atherothrombosis and Individualized Medicine), a Clusters4Future initiative funded by the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR).
The position is based at TRON (Translational Oncology at the University Medical Center Mainz), within the Department for Cardiovascular Therapeutics, offering the chance to work at the cutting edge of translational science.

🔬 Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will focus on the design and optimization of programmable RNA switches (eToeholds) for cell type-specific translation in cardiovascular target cells.
Core Responsibilities Include:
- Analysis of trigger RNA expression using bulk and single-cell RNA-seq data
- In silico design of novel RNA architectures
- RNA structure modeling using tools such as ViennaRNA and NUPACK
- Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations (e.g., with GROMACS)
- AI- and data-driven optimization of RNA designs
- Building a systematic RNA design platform integrating reporter and preclinical data
- Close collaboration with experimental biologists for functional validation
🎓 Required Qualifications
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
- 🎓 PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field
- Strong experience with:
- Bulk and single-cell RNA-seq analysis
- RNA structure modeling
- MD simulations
- Proficiency in Python and R for statistical analysis and machine learning
- Experience working in Unix/Linux cluster environments
- Ability to develop reproducible computational workflows
- Solid background in molecular and cellular biology
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary research teams
