Chemical and Materials Engineering


The Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering at Concordia University, Montreal is offering fully funded PhD positions focused on ultra-high energy density and fast charging lithium rechargeable batteries. These positions are part of the Volt-Age research initiative at the Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science, providing hands-on experience with cutting-edge energy storage technologies.


Requirements

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Electrochemistry, Nanotechnology, or a related field
  • Experience with electrochemical testing techniques (CV, EIS, GITT, galvanostatic cycling)
  • Knowledge of thermal and safety analysis methods (TGA-DSC, ARC, MCC, DEMS)
  • Hands-on experience with coin cell or pouch cell fabrication and controlled environment testing
  • Familiarity with solid-state electrolytes and lithium metal batteries
  • Proficiency in materials characterization (SEM, TEM, XRD, XPS, Raman spectroscopy)
  • Experience with nanomaterials or interfacial coatings for energy storage applications
  • Strong collaboration and organizational skills for multidisciplinary research
  • Excellent communication skills for independent and team work

Asset: Familiarity with gas emission analysis, battery modeling, or glovebox/environmental chamber operation.
